The new Corfu Motorcycle Club was created by a group of friends who share a love of motorcycles and is open to all people who share the same love. Common aims and targets of the Club include the improvement of motorcycling skills, tackling problems that motorcyclists face and forging ties with motorcyclists and motorcycle aficionados. In addition, another aim is the active involvement of the club in our island’s community and life not only in terms of the rights of motorcycle riders but also contributing towards society as a whole.
Many different events such as seminars, trips around Greece and abroad and generally events that promote motorcycling, road safety, culture, protecting and enjoying nature are among the interests of our club. So far, Corfu Motorcycle Club has organized the first among a series of free “First Aid” seminars with the participation and involvement of the National First Aid Centre of Corfu on May 7th 2011. On May 22nd, a trip to our neighbouring country, Albania, was a memorable event and participants, 19 riders on 14 motorcycles, visited Agioi Saranda, the Blue Eye and Argyrokastro.
Following the Club’s initiative and with the approval – cooperation of Corfu Municipality and the local delegations of YAMAHA – HONDA – KTM – SUZUKI – PIAGGIO and their technicians, the 1st Free Motorcycle Tune Up took place on May 29th in the Esplanade of Corfu where many members of the Club and motorcycle aficionados came and checked their motorcycles. On July 10th, a blood drive will be organized with the participation of the mobile unit of the General Hospital of Corfu to start a blood bank not only for the members of the Club but also for the general public. Mr Stamatis Leisos is supervising this blood drive. Finally, at the start of the new school year with the assistance of the Municipal Traffic Committee, our club is aiming for the reopening of the Traffic Education Park so that teachers-trainers can train the students of Corfu.

Advice for safe motorcycle driving
Comply with safety regulations: Riders and fellow – riders always wear a helmet to protect yourselves from falls, the wind, insects and accidents. Helmets save lives!
Be careful with alcohol consumption: alcohol consumption reduces perception ability by 10-30% and our distance vision ability by 25% at night. It also increases a feeling of confidence so drunk drivers overestimate their abilities. Choose another means of transport or a member of your group should not drink in order to return you safely home.
Comply with the Highway Code: Never disregard road signs and make sure you always know what the road signs that you come across mean.
Good vehicle service: Make sure the engine is always in good condition and regularly check the brakes, lights and tyres; never skip necessary tune ups and check ups.
Be aware of skidding conditions: There are several reasons that make roads slippery and this due to drifting which is created on the ground surface when motorcycle tyres do not have good adhesion with the road. The largest percentage of accidents is due to skidding conditions which do not just occur in rainy or icy conditions but also when the weather is good due to matter that might be on the road. You should be particularly careful; do not step on the brakes or change directions abruptly, do not speed and keep your tyres in good condition.
